reports for 1855 and 1860 Average

see that there was a high level of absenteeism. This was probably
because the children often had to stay at home to help their parents.
Education remained something of a luxury.

usually joined between the ages of 3-6 and left aged 10-11

Register for the school still survives and beside each child's name is
the occupations of their father or where he was dead or unknown then

the pupils live? The
children who attended the school lived within walking distance though
the little girl who lived in the Holywood Hills may have got a lift to
school in her Father's cart. The addresses

What
subjects were taught in the Old School? The basic
subjects taught in the school were reading, spelling, writing,
arithmetic, grammar and geography. Extra subjects were also available,
these included singing and Algebra or Agriculture for the boys and
