Who went to school there?

How many children attended Holywood Old School?

These are the enrolment and attendance figures taken from the School Inspector's reports for 1855 and 1860

Average enrolled 1855:                       Boys 61-73      Girls: 85-90

Average attendance 1855:                  Boys 37-49      Girls: 38-67

Average enrolled 1860:                       Boys 70-75      Girls: 70-76

Average attendance 1860:                  Boys 45            Girls: 34-51

You can see that there was a high level of absenteeism. This was probably because the children often had to stay at home to help their parents. Education remained something of a luxury.
